Anniversaries are a time when you let your spouse know just how much you love and adore them. Make sure it goes off without a hitch by trying these simple tips for a successful anniversary celebration.
Look Your Best. This should go without saying but after a period of time we start to get comfortable and let go of our appearance. Does she hate your beard? Chop it off. Does he love when you wear heels? Pull them out of the back of the closet and put them to use. It may not seem like a big deal to you but it will mean the world to them.
Build anticipation. Send them flowers, love notes or just let him/her know how much you are looking forward to some quality time together to celebrate your anniversary. This will set the tone for that special evening and have them looking forward to the actual celebration.
Don't Be Predictable. Does your spouse know your usual routine? To make this anniversary special, do the unexpected. Imagine your loved one getting ready for the usual dinner and movie and to their surprise they are whisked away in a limo or a “fun” rental car for a romantic adventure that will keep them guessing all night. Remember that spontaneity will keep the relationship fresh and new.
Listen and Take Action. Make sure to take notes throughout your marriage on items they have always wanted, things they have always wanted to do and places they have always wanted to go. For instance, is your wife a Dancing with the Stars fanatic? Then a great choice would be getting dressed in your best and take your lady to a private ballroom dance lesson (if that’s not in your budget dancing in the living room works too!). Does your hubby have a need for speed? Give them an adrenaline rush by renting a sports car for the day. Want to splurge even more? You could even take them to drive a stock race car around the track. Open your ears and you will find that they are communicating what they want every day.
Attitude of Gratitude. Make sure to let them know throughout the evening how much you appreciate and cherish them. You might be shocked to know that husbands really need to hear praise just as much as the wives do. A recent study from the University of North Carolina found that gratitude can go hand-in-hand with marital satisfaction, and the more appreciative you are, the happier you both will be.
Capture the moment. You don't want to go through all this planning and preparation without making sure you capture some memories as well? Save little memorabilia from your anniversary celebration such as ticket stubs, receipts and don't forget to take pictures. Put these items in a memory book so you can reminisce for years to come.
